This vintage postcard shows a Fisherman in the middle of a pristine mountain stream in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The card is from the same 1949 travel series encouraging fishing, camping, hiking, and just visiting the Black Hills National Park.
Known for trout fishing, the fisherman in the Black Hills can also catch bass and northern pike. Most of the lakes are stocked with rainbow trout and the streams contain populations of wild brown trout and brook trout. The fishing season is year round in the Black Hills.
A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place. The Black Hills National Park includes the following watersheds that support the lakes and streams in the area:

The lakes in the Black Hills are Deerfield Lake, Pactola Reservoir, and Sheridan Lake, Canyon Lake, Horsethief Lake, Legion Lake, Center Lake, Roubaix Lake, and Bismarck Lake – all offer excellent fishing opportunities. Many streams are also available for your fishing including: Spring Creek, Grace Coolidge Creek, and Spearfish Creek. These all stem out of the numerous watersheds in the Black Hills National Forest.
